The story of a rich man who was dying comes to mind when I think of this topic. The man called his three sons and said to them. “I wish to leave my fortune intact, so I will set each of you the same task to see which one is the most capable at managing money. In my warehouse there are three large storerooms, all of the same size. Here is a bag of silver each. Your task is to each fill one storeroom with as much as your silver will buy.” The first son bought sand with all the money and filled a third of his room. The second son bought soil with all his money and filled half his room. The third son spent only a small portion of his money and bought some candles and matches and filled his room with light.
It is not good enough to just do our job of administering to people’s physical needs. Our greatest gift to humanity is our much neglected and often times belittled vision of possibilities.
It’s not just a little vision that will stir humanity into action but one that respects the inherent wisdom within all living things.
People naturally resonate with a big vision when they get the opportunity so make sure that your vision for the possibilities of every person and every situation you are in is huge. I am sure that you, like me are forever grateful to the people from your past who believed in you and gave you words or deeds that inspired you to do more with your life. On a daily basis you have the chance to do this for others – you never know how far reaching the effects of these gestures may be.
Many people have a very dim ‘light’ so realise that you have a task of overcoming their encrusted, debilitating programming. Listening and exploring concerns, as well as letting them know what you see for them is a necessary step and sometimes has to be done in ‘baby steps’.
Know that there is an interconnectedness of all energy and that your relationships with every other person no matter how short term or transitory is a partnership, which includes discussion and mutual agreement about shared outcomes. This could be a lifelong relationship or a fleeting engagement with a flight attendant on an aeroplane or anything in between. Know that the energy that you exchange with the person goes with both of you for the rest of your days.
Your role is more than the doer of ‘things’. Like the son with the candles you have the ability to be of immense service to humanity both now and into the future.
Communicate your vision, empower people and hand them a candle that will light up their life and their world.
