If you have ever spent any time in London, UK you will be familiar with the recording telling you to “Mind the Gap’ as you enter and exit the trains in the ‘Underground’. This warning alerts you to the fact that a ‘Gap’ can be a dangerous experience if you step into it without being aware.
In the context of ‘Gaps’ in your business, the same could be said. You have ‘Gaps’ in you and your team’s behavioural preferences and skill bases and you ignore them at your peril.
A ‘Gap’ is an area of expertise that you don’t have on your team. It is most important to have your ‘Gaps’ flagged, just like on the ‘Underground’ so when managing, hiring or training it is useful to make sure that you have the ‘Gap’ filled.
Check out the attached video for a guide to identifying the ‘Gaps’ on your team.
Best,
Mark
